Is there an age limit (on the parents) for adopting a child in the UK? TIA

Officially there is no upper age limit, but realistically it is unusual if one of the parents is over 40.

There is no upper limit. Some local authorities set a maximum gap between mother and child (in our LA it's 45 years) but this is only a guideline and can be waived. It's not true to say that people over 40 can't adopt: we adopted our children earlier this year when I was 49 and my partner was 45 - we weren't the eldest in our adoption group either.
