Family tree
3 Answers
I have been researching my family tree and am still not able to find much about my great grandfather. I know his dates of birth, death and marriage, and his place of marriage. I am struggling because I don't know his place of birth. There are quite a few people of the same name on the 1881 and 1901 censuses, born around the same time. How do I narrow it down to which one could be him? I don't know his occupation either and he didn't marry until 1904, so its no good looking for his wife's name. All my family have been grilled and I have followed Dot Hawk's advice from the question below. Can anyone help me progress please?

You need to get his certificates if you don't already have them as they will provide you with additional info and ultimately his place of birth. If you get his birth cert then you'll have his parents names and their address so you'll be able then to carry out a more extensive search of the census returns available, as you'll have a starting point area wise and additional names to search for in his parents and possibly siblings which should help you locate him. Hope this helps a bit.
