Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Just wondered if anyone could tell me if Irritable Bowel Syndrome is or could be hereditory?

Hi Jules,
This will probably be of no use to you but as far as I know, IBS can be hereditory...though not in all cases.
I say this because my mother suffers from it slightly, whereas mine is quite chronic.
However, it all depends on many factors.

It definitely runs in my family, both my siblings and I and our families all have it in varying degrees ,we all live in different parts of the country our lifestyles are different and we eat very different food, so yes as far as we are concerned it is hereditory.

All I can say is both me and my Mum suffer with it - coincidence or a family trait?
