Are there any grants, benefits, or other sources financial help available towards the cost of childcare? I know there is some sort of grant for over 3's but what about for younger? We both work full time and bring in 'lower' average salaries.

Why should the state and me the tax payer pay for the cost of childcare? You work full time you pay for it. You already get child benefit, maternity/paternity leave, you will have time off work when they are ill, the are going to be educated for 11 years at least, you probably get other tax concessions. As a single man in his mid 30's what do I get from the state? Nothing. If I was homeless they wouldn'y give me a house, but you have a couple of kids and they'll throw money at you.

Easy answer is have kids when you can afford it or don't have them. Simple.

You sound a little bitter Reverandfunk. Life not working out for you? I pay my taxes just like you, and those who sit on their ar$e and do nothing and expect it all are also a source of irritation to myself. But, the term is entitlement, and as I don't work out who is and isn't entitled, it's worth a general enquiry. Get a life, and don't be so quick to pass opinion on others when you don't know their circumstances.
do you receive tax credits? I think child tax credits pay something towards the cost of childcare, but the child has to with registered child care, not just at a relatives.

We do, but nothing that would even put a dent in the cost of monthly care. Ah well, we'll work it out somehow... just glad we're not having twins!
well if you have already looked into the tax credit side then there isnt anything else. Perhaps look at finding cheaper alternatives instead
some employers give vouchers towards childcare, they are a tax break for them. you can also purchase vouchers from some private providers thar give u discount if u buy in bulk. have a look around ur area.
probably, not what u want hear but going parttime reduces ur childcare costs, without too much cost to urself.

in answer to the single guy, if everyone waited until we could afford kids, the human race wud die out.
The government may pay up to 80% of childcare costs...ring the tax credits dept and ask.

There are also voucher schemes available whereby you don't pay tax on the childcare you pay yourself. Your employer needs to be registered with them...e.g Busy Bees, Accors etc.
