Hi,
I'm due to go on a school trip with my six year to london. After all the bomb scares at the weekend I'm having second thoughts about taking him. I know security will be tight but I'm still worrying about taking my child into a potentially dangerous situation. I know I'm probably over reacting a bit, what does anyone else think. Would you take your child?

yes. Much more important is to watch out for him as he crosses the road; far more people get hurt in traffic accidents than are ever likely to be blown up. Have a great time, both of you.
millions of people everyday are going to school and working in central London (me included). Take your son, as the chances of anything happening are slim to none. He will have a fantastic time - and so will you.
I wouldn't think twice about it - he's probably in more danger playing in the garden

Zacsmaster - this isn't about winning or losing its about risk and safty and not just being defiant, It was this time last year they bombed London and they are trying again so manic mum this is the most important thing to you your child who you want to keep safe do what you feel is right it just proves how much of a good mother you are.
I would just go, the threat is so minimal, over 5 million people live in London, get it in perspective please, more chance of being hit by lightning, and if you think about it you are more likely to be hit by a bus.
this could happen anywhere - this was not only London. This has now come to 5 miles from my front door and I can tell you here in Glasgow we are all going about our daily business as normal. If you are not going to relax and enjoy yourself then no point in going really but I certainly would not cancel any trip.

If you stay away manic mum then the terrorists have achieved thier objective, to instill fear and terror into decent people, that's why we call them terror-ists,
go + enjoy our fantastic capital city, (then for some real culture + beauty, nip up to Edinburgh)

manic Mum, I wouldn't go, my head office in tavistock square experienced first hand what can happen last year, the girls there who i used to speak to several times a week, are not the same any more, life changed for them forever, i am only wise after an event unfortunately, not very often before it,

my daughter has gone to london today on a school trip and will also be using the sub-way must admit i am watching the clock for her return home at 8pm but there again wherever she goes i am the same.
Totally agree with Zacmasters and johnlamberts earlier comments. Please don't spoil yours and your childs day - it shows they are achieving their objectives. Don't let them win. Have lots of fun.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Yes I can see I'm over reacting. I'll give it some more thought and put everything into perspective. I'm sure it will be a great trip.
Hi..we won a holiday to America and had to fly out 3 weeks after 9/11...my parents thought that we were very selfish to be taking our 2 sons into a potential high risk country, but we were determined to go...why let ignorant fools try to take away our freedom? We had the holiday of our dreams and felt safe every minute with the security in place everywhere,it will be just like that in London..go,have a wonderful time and I'm sure you and your son will take home a million happy memories...enjoy your trip..footymum
