maybe the reason your son wont potty train is because he can feel the tension in the house between you and your hubby. kids pick up on so much.
it took me 8 months to get my son out of them. he is 3 in may and has been dry in day for a couple of months now.
the one thing that got him, was putting something in the bottom of his potty, he found it amusing weeing on it.
you need to wake up one day with the determination to do it, take his nappies of him and dont look back. let him go around house with nothing on his bottom, if he wees on floor just pick him up and put him on his potty, get him to stay there for a minute. dont shout but let him no what he did was wrong.
if you keep gping back to nappies it will just confuse him. when we first tried my son would have about 10 accidents a day but after a few datys they got less and less.
just stick with it and try not to give up

Maybe because he is having speech problems he lacks understanding. Therefore he may take longer to train than average, if you make him feel scared or upset because he has soiled then you may make the situation worse and further prevent him toilet training.
Children are very perceptive and can pick up on a negative atmosphere, maybe he feels unhappy and unable to put his mind to toilet training. especially if he has speech and understanding problems. you need to take the stress off him and stop feeling that its a race to get it done. there are lots of children that take longer to train, work with his speech therapy its not a waste of time.
In the meantime try making the house a happier less stressful environment before you start training again.

awww kitten poor thing I do feel for you; everything seems bleak for you right now I guess. This flippin weather doen't help; once that sun shows its face in a few months your little boy will be able to run around with no pants on!!
I had trouble potty training my kids - doesn't it seem everyone else's time was easy. ....I honestly don't think everyone admits to what a trial it is.
For me, nothing was easy and I tried everything. Maybe you need to accept you are in for a long haul on this one and don't expect it to happen fast...it ain't gonna be easy either.
Maybe set a deadline to look to and an easy target, say, by August he will have at least improved. There, you can't fail.
As for hubby you are gonna have to tell him you can't bail him out again. Sit down with him and work out a weekly budget for him and explain you can't help him anymore.
The best of luck to you kitten - things won't always be tough...stay positive for your little boy. x

i wouldn't worry about the potty thing. If he's not ready then I would leave it a few weeks or even more.
Not all kids are dry early - despite what some parents say!
All children are different. If someone has managed to get their child clean and dry at a young age, then they are very lucky! My daughter was two and a half, but both my boys were well over three. Summer is a good time as he won't catch cold, and your only changing little shorts - not heavy jeans, socks, shoes!
I understand you are having a crappy time at the minute - but it will get better.
As for his speech therapy, could you just treat it as going for a nice visit to see ______ - whatever her name is? If it does some good then that's great, and it certainly won't hurt him.
I have known children with quite severe speech problems when they came to me at nursery, and I see them now, in "big school" chattering away!
I agree with the other posts - get some time for yourself. Even a bit of window shopping or a swim at adults only times; a cheapy cinema trip or free hairdo at a student hairdressers might help.
hope the sun comes out soon! xxx

Kit, my friend's son was speech delayed also and was a late trainer too. Give the therapist time to bond with him. The therapist my friend had said that often speech delayed children do things at their own pace and tend to go with the flow. It might be a slower pace or a bit "lazy", but it works itself out.
I can only echo what the others have said -its your oldest 'child' who is the problem -hard as it may be -stop pandering to him-he is excarerbating a problem which doesnt really exist with your son.
I always said -you dont see kids running about at 10 with a dummy (thats when J still had hers at 3) -you dont see children running about with nappies on at 10 (unless there is a real problem and quite obviously there isnt) and when my 2 slept in the bed with me and people said youre making a rod for your own back -well they were right cos J still crept in very occasionally when she was 14 and know what -I loved cosying in with her.Enjoy your wee boy -he'll be big before you know it..
So dont worry -please take all this advice given on board -your wee lad will be just fine -dont fret x.
