well, it's come around again! - The note from school saying the children can dress up as a favourite story character.
Thinking of an idea for a six year old girl that doesn't involve princesses or fairy costumes is proving to be a bit difficult!
Has anyone any ideas please?

my cousin had this he was 6. his mom made a book shape out of cardboard with holes for his arms and feet to come out of. she then got him to draw all of his favourite characters onto the front of the book and paint them. he won first prize as it was so different. really not that hard to do either
I'm a teacher (part time) and will be in my school on World Book Day. I can imagine how difficult it is for parents. I would suggest a fairy - Tinkerbell out of Peterpan, or or princess - Sleeping Beauty - all viable stories from books written by real people.

I won't be dressing up!
My son is in year 6 and also has been sent home with a letter saying the children should dress up in costume.Unfortunately I was only given 2 days notice so am unable to get him a costume or make him one so along with many other children in his school he will be going in uniform as usual. I do wish schools would stop expecting all parents to be able to afford thses things,we are not all middle class and loaded!...........ok rant over.lol
Lolita
I dressed my daughter in white, (sweatshirt and joggers) cut out some black fabric random spot shaped pieces and tacked them on to the white clothes, attached ear shaped black fabric shaped pieces to an Alice Band and did a quick spot of face painting. Hey presto she was a dalmatian from 101 Dalmatians,
I would be annoyed, if I only got two days to prepare for something like that.

At the moment my son (20 months) would have to go as Tigger, as that is his favourite character... :o)

How about Paddington bear, with a suitcase, a hat, a coat and a sign saying: Please look after this bear.
Then a little make up and FINITO!

I don't know what six-year olds read these days.
I was into the Disney books...
There would be Merlin with a cloak, a crooked pointy hat and a wand.
Or Mickey Mouse.
Or Arielle, but that takes a little more sewing.
Cinderella in rags?
Ordinary clothes with a toy lion and she could be Lucy from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Witches costume - from either The Worst Witch or Harry Potter.
blimey thats not given you much time has it??????

At my daughters school theyve chosen a theme, which is bedtime stories and so theyre allowed to go to school in pyjamas/nightie and wear their dressing gown and slippers while theyre inside the classroom, lol.

Thinking about that and as an idea for yourself, Wendy from Peter Pan wouldnt be too hard? She could wear a nightie?
my daughter had to do this and dressed as little bo peep.
We have had this come up for the last 2yrs at my children's school and that problem I have is that you normally get 2 days notice. I don't mind doing these things and the children enjoy making their costumes which don't have to be expensive but do take time. My thought, and maybe I'm wrong, is that teachers know more than 2 days before an event like this happens so why don't they let us know????
