How much milk is necessary for a 4yr old?
7 Answers
I have just reduced by daughter's milk intake in a bid to reduce the amount she is weeing at night and wondered how much milk do children of this age actually need? She will still be having a large cup on a morning and eats 1-2 yoghurts a day but before she had a large cup of milk before bed as well. Does is matter that I have stopped this?

If your daughter is having (fortified) cereal with milk for breakfast AND a glass of milk, then say bread with butter/margerine and cheese/tuna/egg for lunch with some salad (tomato and lettuce), a yoghurt/fromage frais and possibly a milk based drink with dinner, this is more than enough calcium.

my niece (aged 9) and nephew (aged 4) drink milk every night before going to bed. They have milk and cereal in the morning and normally a yoghurt at somepoint. Milk is something they enjoy in their bedtime routine that I am not sure why you are feeling she should not be having it - my niece and nephew are very healthy children and it does not seem to doing them any harm in any way.
I don't feel she shouldn't be having it in fact I like her having the milk and feel it is an important part of her bedtime routine. The only reason I am reducing or stopping the bedtime milk is because I cannot get her dry on a night. Her pull up is soaked and I think if she doesn't have a big cup of milk before bed it may help her. She is now 4 and at school and she looks ridiculous wearing them! I am trying anything. In the school hols I am going to ditch the pull ups. I just wanted to know that I wouldn't be depriving her of nutrients of she didn't have the milk thats all.
