My niece is signing paper making me gardian for her 8 month old daughter. what are my rights, and does this mean i have sole custody of her? Is sole legal gardianship the same?

I really think you should have looked into this before agreeing to be her guardian. It's best these things are done properly through a solicitor, in order to be sure it's all in order. Legal problems are best answered by qualified people. I'm sure the CAB could help you - or go and get your 15mins of free advice from a solicitor.
theres a diference between guardian and custodian. I agree you should seek advice as there is also the issue of mjoint guardianship given biological parentsare guardians unless removed by a court
