Going through some old paperwork I've just discovered a cheque written from my gas/electricity company to me for a refund of 250. Trouble is it was sent December 2007!

As their cust service centre is shut and I'll have to wait until tomorrow does anyone know if they'll re-issue the cheque, and how easy is it for me to prove I've not paid it in? (I'll expect they'll want the old cheque back before sending out a new one)

Yes they will issue a new cheque. Explain to them over the phone, give the cheque number.

If they want you to send it back, do so be recorded post
There should be no problem in getting another cheque - but there will be a delay whilst they check their records and they may make a small charge. It depends how efficient the company is. They have no incentive to rush this through.
