I do however want a lengthy service beforehand so my nearest and dearest will HAVE to listen to my favourite tunes without yelling at me to turn it down.
I already have the playlist planned, starting with "Here I Go Again on My Own" by Whitesnake

Hi petal54, I have been to more funerals this year than I care to remember :( most have been quite sombre. I want a Humanist celebration and have been thinking of the songs that I want played. If I am being flippant I say "Relight my Fire" by Take That when I go into the big fire (crematorium) but realistically its going to be something uplifting. :)
Hi petal54. Snap I was at the funeral of a 96 year old uncle on the 7th of this month and we had exactly the same conversation.
I was mortified at the last song they played which was Matt Munro's Softly As I Leave You.
It has stuck in my head and I cry when I hear it now.
So I want as many High energy Gospel numbers as possible because I would like a celebration of the life that was rather than death that has come.

I work with the elderly and have whit nest death on many occasions it dosnt get any easier to see people die even though they are old and lived a life. i think for me knowing what the end of life can hold i would like to die in my home with my family around me and my funeral to reflect not just my life but also the death i had .morbid perhaps but we live in such a sanitised world we fear death so much we don't talk about it or share our feelings becouse i think if we did we may not be so frightened when the approaches
