how can i obtain a great grandmothers surname, previous to her marriage to my gt. grandfather. would i have to buy a copy of their marriage certificate or is there another way to find out. many thanks.

If you mean maiden name claybury either your gt grans birth or marriage certifiacte but you must have DOB etc. I did this tracing my gt gran! They cost about �7.50.

My local Registry Office, As long as you have the DOB,full name and the area where your gt gran was born you should'nt have any problems likewise with a marriage certificate. You can apply for a certificate by phone by giving them the details and sending a cheque to your Registry Office. Good luck.

go on any bmd site some are free just do some cross referencing if you know the date they married you will find gt grandfather and the women he married (maiden name) good luck
