My daughter attended her last ever morning only place at school yesterday. She will go full time after the Easter hols. While she is looking forward to it, I am putting a very brave face on for her sake when in actual fact I am dreading it!
I cried most of last night thinking about it and still feel sad now! I think its because she is my only child, we can't afford anymore and that pre school phase is gone forever. I can't help thinking she will never be a baby again!! I know, it sounds so stupid but please help me out! Did any of you think like that or am I just too soft?

it does not sound stupid at all.
It is a natural reaction, you will miss her during the day. If you can it would be a good idea to find something to do, to occupy yourself.
It was a long time ago tigwig but I felt like that and I had another little boy at home. I felt dreadful so don't feel silly that you have those feelings x
No and neither did mrs sqad.
I am not lucky enough to be a parent, but not through choice. I am missing her as well, even though we have never met. This does not sound stupid at all, and they say that abscence makes the heart grow fonder. You do not say whether you have any pets at your home. I once read in a paper recently that some people love their pets more then their children, but have never had the guts to ask my parents if that is so in the case of their family of 3 (formerly 4 cats) I think I may know what the answer would be.

Sorry I have not been much help, but it is the law to go to school. I can only hope you will spend as much time together when she gets home from school.

I've had 4 kids all adults now tigwig and I bawled my eyes out when they started at nursery, infants, junior and senior schools. It seems like your baby's moving away from you but just think of the cuddles you can give your little one when she comes home from a full day at school. You're not being too soft, you're a loving mum:-))
I did the same when mine started mornings only and came home at lunchtime and like yogasun I have a little one at home. So can only imagine what you are feeling like.
Not sad at all!

My 4 year old will be going in September, and I've half jokingly told hubby he'll have to take the morning off work her first day as I'll be too much of a crying wreak and embarress myself!

Like you, I'm dreading no longer being 'the centre of her universe'. She'll get friends (hopefully!) and I'll no longer be the be all and all of her little life.
I felt the same way tig when mine started fulltime, now she is in secondary school and is getting the teenage strops :S

Oh good I'm glad its not just me! I do work 2 days so that will keep me occupied then the rest of the week I childmind so I am definitely busy! But what makes it worse is that the girl I care for 3 days a week goes to the same school mornings only. So I will be picking her up and leaving my own! Double torture!!!
Aww bless you tigwig.

I guess all you can do is console yourself with the fact that she'll be having a blast and having far too much fun to even notice you aren't there.

(Yes I know- a small comfort eh? LOL)
Ah, I know how you feel - I was the same in every stage of my kids' lives and my daughter gets married next week!! You said you can't afford any more - I have to say now I'm menopausal I wish I had had more than two! I say have more, unless you're really strapped it's worth giving up other material things to have children - of course that's just my opinion. You will get used to her being at school but I know that's not much consolation now. Good luck, tigwig

thanks for the answers. I'm afraid having another child is definitely not an option at the moment anyway. My hubby has been unemployed for over 6 months now and my parents are giving us money each week to pay for everything! Nightmare! They would kill me if I got pregnant!
We are going down the fostering route now cos I have so much love to give, might as well let another child share it who needs it more!!
Hi tig,
yes I remember ;0) She'll be o.k, you'll be o.k. It's natural to want to protect them completely, but she has to go out there & discover & mix & learn. She will grow up before your eyes & make you laugh & be proud! xxx

Every parents nightmare..standing in the playground watching your child walk off into class all nervous and then they take that last look over their shoulder at you and you spend the day worrying about it

But the joy on their face when they come out of school and come running up to you in the playground, it`ll warm your heart
i echo what you all say.she will be fine,.as parents we worry unnecessary sometimes.i hope it goes well for you.
