3 dots on ultrasound scan

When I had an ultrasound scan at 17 weeks I saw three white dots in a triangle. Could this mean a boy or girl? When I went for 20 week scan couldn't see anything, picture just shows like a dark hole down there!

No idea as I've never had kids but I doubt it. Didn't you ask the nurse / scanner person whilst you were there?

I was told when I had a scan, (my son is 30 this year), that you can only really tell what the sex is if you can actually see and identify that the male organs are there. I could actually see his little whatsit.

If you can't see anything it doesn't mean it's a girl, it could be lying in such a way that it is not showing.

My brother's wife is pregnant and the dots are what you base the sex of the baby on.

I am sure that three dots is a girl but your midwife would confirm this. Try Googling this - there are tons of websites for Pregnancy.

What happens if you don't want to know the sex though and youn ask what the dots are, do they lie?

I had a little girl the sonographer knew it was a girl because she could see 3 lines, but maybe they also look like dots! Like Wolf says ask your midwife, she'll know.
