Hello All. I have to go to my grandaughters graduation ceremony and don't know much about what goes on. Do I have to get all togged up?( I hate wearing ties) and how long do these things last?. Don't get me wrong, I'm very proud of her and what she's done but once she recieves her certificate or whatever it is called I want to be out of there. Is this wrong of me being a S.O.G. or are there other AB's with the same thoughts.Best wishes to all AB's....S.O.G

Depending on the size of the student body, you sould allow one to two hours for the ceremony itself, and there are usually photos and a chat afterwards.
It's like school plays, prize days, concerts, and so on. You go along, get a sore behind from sitting too long on a hard chair, feel proud for the few minutes that your family member is involved, and spend the rest of the time fidgeting and quietly cursing under your breath but ...
it's the same for everyone!
it's a couple of hours out of your life.
it's important to your grand-daughter to be there and be proud.
it won't kill you to put yourself out for someone else.
OK?
Good.

definately a suit and tie (it is a formal occaision) and a cushion for your behind if it tends to go numb. there will be pictures, ceremony, friends and probably free drink - so have some of that and chill out! it will take about 2-3 hours, so is not a quick process. take her for a slap up meal after and continue to get pickled and you won't notice the time. it will be the proudest day of her life and should be yours, too. is a bit of a rigmarole if you are not used to events, but you will enjoy it. good luck and don't forget your camera x
G'd has studied hard to reach this position so appreciate her efforts by showing due respect in a suit and polished shoes - a hat would be a smart squirish finish.

Hi once again to you all. The ceremony took place yesterday morning and you were right about the numb bum! also I didn't have to wear a tie as it was too warm ( had one in my pocket). As you all said it could be quite a long period which it was with about 250 graduates being capped. However I got quite a thrill seeing my grandaughter up there receiving her degree. We had a nice meal afterwards, ( no booze, all of us driving)....Now she's off to Cuba for a holiday!. I should be so lucky. Thank you once again AB's for your replies. Take care and go carefully S.O.G.
