Should my 11 and a half month old know how to scribble?

Just like the title says my 11 and a half month old son has been scribbleing (sp?) today I was wondering if it's normal or is he a genius in the making

erm well most would have the ability to try and scribble.

if hes writing poetry then that'd be different.

Still, if it's his first attempt, whatever it is, then mummy is allowed to be proud :)
Well... as scribbling is basically the ability to hold an implement long enough to make random marks on a surface I'm going to go out on a limb here and say probably not a genius.
Sorry to disappoint but I think it is normal - my youngest two must have been doing this around either Christmas 2008 or their first birthdays because they got one of those colour doodle boards (don't know the proper name for them) around that time.
PS - they got one each, not one between them (that would just be mean).
If I was his Mum I would think he was a genius.
word of warning- watch out for permanent markers and walls....
My son coloured his bedroom in.....
