My 6 year old has to design an egg for school - there is no theme or any guidance on what is needed. I am not artisitc so I need some ideas that are easy to do but wont look too rubbish (basically I will make it but it will be so crap that it will look like he has done it!). Thanks

why can't your child do it?
Question Author
He could if it was something simple enough, just can't think of what he could do.
Oh join the club!

We've to design one for this coming Wednesday in the theme of fruit and vegetables. So far we've come up with a strawberry patch, the eggs decorated as strawberries on a paper plate garden. Not sure what it will look like or how simple this will be, but we're attempting it this weekend. Feel free to borrow the idea if you like!

Will keep an eye on this thread to see if anyone else can inspire you (me) in the meantime.

Good luck!

Thanks Boo - also have to do a Roman Soldier costume for the 9 year old by Monday!
Are we talking hard boiled eggs here?

If so just draw a pair of glasses on it, there`s one on Master Chef every night ;o)
Question Author
Don't know if they have to be empty shells or hard boiled - something else to think about now!
On the letter I got from school it advised hard boiled ones.
Question Author
I suppose hard boiled will be better but they might be a bit heavy?
When my daughter was 6 or 7 she took part in something similar. I made a few suggestions, supplied the paints etc and left her to it. The result was that it looked like an egg decorated by a 5 or 7 year old child.
The eggs were put on display in the classroom, and trust me, my daughter's was the only one decorated by a child. The winner was a scale model of the Titanic!
Be warned....there is graft and corruption amongst the parents of infants!
Aye they will be, which is why whatever you put them on needs to be sturdy.

Listen to me sounding all knowledgeable on sodding egg decorating, never done it before in my life and I know on Sunday evening I'll be sobbing over the ruddy thing!
Question Author
That's the thing - you don't want them to be shown up by their efforts (not that mine will be any good) but if he does it himself it will be an egg with glitter stuck on it and some googly eyes. Have thought we could make them into bugs - a spider, a ladybird and, if we are very adventurous, a butterfly.
A spider with googly eyes and pipe cleaner legs sounds good

And it can't be that hard to paint a flipping egg black! Even my son could do that and finish it before he gets bored.
Question Author
Thanks Vulcan, they are brilliant (in that they look easy to do and you can tell what they are supposed to be).
My neice used to have to do this at her school. Once she painted glasses on egg and made a box into an desk- basically it was harry hill on tv burps! Quite funny, top of egg was his bald head. Maybe a bit old for your child though.
Question Author
Probably is a bit old for my son but a good idea (and easy to do). Thanks
Question Author
Thanks Vulcan - they're even better than the last lot (but it will take us a lot longer than an hour!).
my next door neighbours five year old made a simon cowell egg paint just over halfway up the high trousers and some fluffy short black material for the hair
