We got married in Sri Lanka, booked through Kuoni as a package deal - flights, all-inclusive hotel and wedding package with optional extras. Unfortunately the beach hotel has since been destroyed by the Tsunami, it was near Beruwela. The only thing we needed to do before we went was get an affidavit from a solicitor to confirm we were both single, but everything else was arranged for us by Kuoni, they were fantastic. Going back a few years, it cost us about £5K for everyone - that is, we had 3 weeks over there, and both sets of parents stayed for the first week as well. In some countries you have to be in the country for a certain number of days before you can get married - I think we had to be there for 4 days. It was incredibly cheap and although in monsoon season, it was scorching hot with not much rain. The actual wedding was about £200, we had dancers and singing girls escorting us, most of the hotel guests lined along the balconies and paths of the hotel to watch (and I thought it would be a quiet event!), plus a 7 course meal afterwards. Our local photographer cost £50 and gave us the negatives as well, bargain! The hotel guests actually made it more special for us, it was a real upbeat atmosphere, and they were all respectful of what was going on. The thought of getting married in dreary England with a load of family I never see or much care for expecting an invite, in a register office and spending thousands before you've even booked your honeymoon - really spurred us on to do it abroad :)
