Practical help and advice, referrals to specialist services if necessary and someone following you up to ensure that the children are going to any appointments as necessary and that you are coping and they are happy. It's generally there for the well being of the children, it is usually the preferred option for children to stay with their family and this is a good way to ensure that everything is ok from them if they've been through a bit of an ordeal or the family is having a hard time.
They can also provide support to mum and/or dad if needed and financial or social information if requried.
