lidl. compte de somebody or other around 14,50 a bottle.
Supermarkets, they quite often have offers on around this time of year, and some of the own brands are perfectly nice.

Admittedly my personal favourite is £35 but I quite often get it for less than that, I just look out for deals. Sometimes your local offy will have them at reduced prices too. My local has a range of wines I quite like for significantly cheaper than they are in the sainsburys near my work.

I am interested in Cristal, Krug those sort of brands (which I know aren't cheap) for my 30th birthday coming up soon *yikes*
can you go wholesale?, if you buy in buy you'll get it cheaper per bottle
If you are being specific in your choice then the best thing to do is keep an eye out on supermarket offers. In the run up to Christmas and New Year, many offer good deals on fizz.
In that case I'd ask for them as birthday presents ;o)

Mccfluff, I have checked out wholesale prices but the prices are way over my budget. I was planning to spend approx £110-120 a bottle.

Thing is China doll I am travelling to my partners home country to meet his family it would be a little cheeky to ask them for champagne as a birthday gift - although I wouldn't mind if they did buy it. I may drop a little hint in my partners ear.
Charles Mignon Cuvée Comte de Marne Brut Grand Cru at Aldi from Thurs. next £22.99
For a party I would go with methode champagnoise or vin mousseux. A fraction of the price and some are actually nicer than true champagne.
Try and find a methode champagnoise from Saumur, I have a house near there and the fizz they produce is ideal party plonk.
That is what the French do.
ive just looked on bookers website,

Krug Grande Cuvée Brut 750ml £85
or go speak to a wine merchant they may be able to help

Some names here the Bouvay Ladubet is especially good.

Thanks shoota

mccfluff, bookers is for business owners and registered charities right? £85 is a good price. Do you know whether they stock cristal?
For that kind of money I'd do as Fluffy says and go to a proper wine mechants. Without wishing to be rude, would you be able to tell the difference between Cristal and a decent own brand? I'm really not trying to be rude at all, I'm just thinking that if it's not the case then perhaps buying something just for the name might not be a great idea when you can make your money go further.

For the money you're thinking to spend, it's worth going to a specialist, and maybe even getting a taste of a variety of stuff.... have you looked in to a tasting class? Might give you an idea of what you fancy in particular for your special day? Just a thought really.
can;t see it on the website. you just need to know someone with a bookers card

like me :-)

but i also know a chap who has a wine merchants, whe i buy for work i usually go to him.

have you looked at tesco's wine site, they can have some really good offers
Question Author
China doll, I actually want the champagne for the brand only, I am fully aware that Cristal does not taste that nice and is over priced for what it is buttttt I do want to feel special on my birthday and would like a special (expensive but on a budget) bottle of champagne. I know i'm going to be slaughtered for this comment *hides face in shame*.

Good idea re wine merchants and tasting. I will look into that.
aldi philizot monsigny brut no 3 £12.99 -got a great review in The Independent
