Keeping Wine

I used to open a bottle of wine and drink it over the next two or three weeks, and it was fine, but the last bottle tasted horrible after a week, when I checked the label it said to "consume within 3 days" it was Australian colombard chardonnay 12%, I have never had his happen before, have you?

I open a bottle of wine and it is gone in about two to three hours (if it lasts that long). I have heard about special stoppers that you can use to keep wine fresh but it would not get used if I had one, so cannot comment if they are any good. There may be people on here who make a bottle of wine last 2-3 weeks, but I doubt it!

Buy it by the Box. it's much better if you're not like grass and me

it mustve oxidised quicker than usual. Even though I find a bottle of wine as a good prelude to a few beers there have been occassions whereby wine has been saved for the next day.

Red keeps alot longer than white, probably more robust.

thanks for your replies, I can't drink like I used to as sometimes have to take medication that don't mix with alcohol, its just that i have never seen a 'drink by' date on wine before, in my younger days it would'nt have even crossed my mind that wine would need that, are smaller bottles available? my oh can't help as he don't drink at all, but I do like a glass sometimes.

mazie has the right idea.....'Buy it by the Box.'.....I do and it does last a long time if you only have a glassful now and again. A 3 litre box has been known to last me and my wife for as long a period as three days.

You could buy the little bottles? mine never normally lasts the evening, but i'd give white wine 3 days max, red maybe 4

If you do not fancy wine by the box there is gadget called Vacu vin which works very well by drawing air out of the bottle and keeps the wine fresh longer.

The Vacuvin stoppers do work well - but not for 2 to 3 weeks though. 1 week maximum.

At this very moment, glass in hand, I am drinking boxed Sicilian Red.....it's not bad for afternoon drinking, after a few lunchtime sherries. Hic, Hic.

Do you think I should make my own wine ?...I've got a recipe for one which should keep as fresh as a daisy.:-

thanks for your replies, I will look out for 'little bottles', the boxes sound ok but I think would be to much for me alone(damned tablets)

Try using vacuum stoppers. It will keep quite happily a couple of weeks using these.
