Advice Wanted On Wines.

I've got several bottles of wine that have been in store for ten years or more.

Before I post descriptions of the wines, are there any expert/knowledgeable ABers out there who could provide a reasonable assessment on whether they will still be ok or whether they will be undrinkable ?

The 85 Mouton - if kept well should be brilliant (and under 13C)- will keep longer - under your stair case well ok. The Vieille Ferme - questionable but drink now. It may well have lost a wee bit of its taste. It's a good honest robust wine that many French restaurants use. It's a good bottler in Perrin et Fils The Chemin des Mulets 1996 - yep ok but drink up - pretty...

If Derek answers my question, then I can determine if its worth pursuing asking what he has in his collection.

I haven't been around much lately, headwreck, things busy work-wise. Only first thing in the morning and in the evening.

Headwreck, I was being ironic, you know how many people have to stick their oar in even if they have nothing to say ...like this post.

Derek, the descriptions will have to be pretty specific for the answers to mean much. ie, everything on the label.

Whilst we are speaking of alcohol.
I have a bottle of Brandy given as a gift in about 2005 still unopened.
A bottle of vodka unopened bought in about 2007.
A bottle of champagne given in 2004 again unopened.
Several bottles of Martini which look a lot darker than what you see in the shops.
So experts, Are they all good to drink, or bin fodder.
If he hasn't kept them in 40 to 60 F (6 to 14C), then they are likely to be screwed up - what I would need is the main title of the wine and the year.

the Champagne should be ok - type and year?
if they are unopened they will be fine, if opened then try them.
the Martini may be suspect, open and sniff....

Jeza, I've got a bin you could use
I've fallen heir to a selection of wines that heve been stored in a rack in a kitchen for about the same length of time.
I've opened three and found an opaque liquid with something like coffee grounds at the bottom of each bottle.
I'm sticking around (in hope) for some definitive answers
I somehow doubt there is anyone here who knows enough about your wines to advise. Try your local wine merchants.
Jeza - the brandy and vodka will be fine. The Martini probably will be OK as well.

All bottles are unopened and have been stored on their sides in racks under the stairs where the temperature is moderate and fairly even.

It's a little late now for the descriptions but I'll be back with them tomorrow. Watch this space.
