Ice is less dense than the liquid so it floats.
Think what the world would be like if icebergs sank to the bottom of the sea!

true, didnt think of that, so would it be the same if ice cubes were made out of vodka
You can't make icecubes out of vodka because alcohol doesn't freeze. It may go a bit slushy but it won't go solid like water. Tough call.
hippyhoppy - alcohol does freeze, just at tempuatures much much lower than water. It also boils at lower tempuature.
The freezing point of pure alcohol is something daft like -115C, for vodka its more like -30C for it all to freeze. Not something you could manage with your freezer at home!
It dosen't last long enough in this house to freeze, anyhoo.

To be totally pedantic, ice cubes float because water is denser than ice.
When bubbles (or ice cubes) rise to the surface, what is really happening is that the liquid is falling around them.
The only (relevant) force acting is gravity, which pulls the liquid downwards around the floating objects.
The net result is, the bubbles or ice cubes or whatever appear to float to the surface.

I might get a life one day...................
