1960s ladies went for snowballs - advocaat and lemonade. Or sweet sherry! Men usually went for the Party 7 - a seven-pint can of bitter. I still have a tap for one! Real sophistocation was the Mateus Rose.

Party food included cheese and pineapple "hedgehogs", a cheese cube and a pineapple chunk impaled on a cocktail stick which was then stuck in a foil-covered jalf grapefruit. A variation was cheese and silverskin onions. Sausage rolls of course, cheese footballs if you can get them. Bridge rolls spread with pate and celery with primula cheese from a tube squirted into the hollow bit also come to mind.

Ah, memories...
My Auntie used to drink brandy and babycham (yes, together) in the 60's.

Thxs very much, the primula spread brings back memories I am sure my mother still uses it.
Crispi Mini Chips, Ritz Crackers with cheese & pickle, Tuc Crackers with Primula or Dairylea cheese spread, Golden Wonder peanuts (They're the p'nuttiest), Crispi Crisps (the only crisps that give you gifts), Cadbury's Roses (they grow on you), Maltesers (the chocolates with the less fattening centres).

Thxs - is it correct that prawn cacktails were popular as well, and was there any main dish more popular than any other ie chicken kiev or curry.
What cocktails did they serve (apart from the snowball)?
This is a great help so any more ideas are very welcome
The classic late 60s and 70s eating-out meal was prawn cocktail, steak chips and peas followed by Black Forest Gateau. That's probably closer to the 70s than the 60s though. Berni Inns (remember them?) in the early 70s combined the first and main course with a surf & turf! They also popularised duck a l'orange.

Just remembered another 2 drinks - port & lemonade, gin & orange squash (not juice!)
Don't forget the Babycham and also Cherry Brandy , class ! Plus "do 'ave a Dubonnet "
Pernod and blackcurrant - Dark rum and blackcurrant - Cherry B - Britvic fruit juices - Pony - which I think was sherry
Scotch eggs and pork pies
