village with no pub
2 Answers
I want to start a one night a month evening do in the village hall so that villagers have somewere to go and socialize without having to get into the car. Alcohol would hopefully be consumed. How could this be made self-financing without breaking the law? (Apart from everyone bringing their own drink)

Every month there is a newsletter posted to all 300 residents of the village informing them of events
No alcohol is allowed to be sold so everyone just brings their own drink

I think you'd have to apply for a drinks licence seadreamer, but these are usually issued to pubs, clubs, off licences and one-off events.
You could always brew your own, and secretly sell it to your friends from home - but I know someone who really tried that, and he ended up in court!!!
Best to hire out the village hall, and get people to bring their own. You could probably make a small charge at the door, to cover the cost of the hall. I'm sure other ABers can advise you better than me though!
