Pub beer

Beer/lager now costs upwards of £3 per pint in pubs. Why does anyone pay such horrendous prices for a commodity which retails at about 50p. per pint in the local supermarket ? Beer at home tastes the same.

Similarly all drinks in pubs are overpriced, alcoholic or otherwise. No wonder pubs are closing every week, though I blame the Exciseman, not the publican.

I'd feel really cheated if drank bottled beer'lager at a pub; exactly the same as what you buy in the supermarket.

However, you can't beat a proper hand pulled, cask conditioned ale from a pub. That kind of experience can't be matched at home.

I remember promising to give up beer when it reached the outrageous price of 20p per pint. Didn't, though.

Likewise Mike, I resolved to give up beer when it reached 2/- (10p.) a pint. Like you, I persevered until it hovered near £1, then headed for Tesco. Have been in Tesco ever since, 'cos socialising is too damn expensive.

At least with beer, you are getting a different product in the pub from what you could drink at home ...

When you buy wine in a pub, you're getting exactly the same think, but twice the price.

But, we still do it, because of the social aspect (as already mentioned).

Twice the price....The price of a glass in some pubs are the same as a whole bottle.

If beer in your local tastes the same as bottled/canned beer your landlord is doing something wrong.

Actually, you're right there.

But ... I'd hardly ever buy just a glass in a pub.

Some bars in Reading charge £6 for a large glass of wine (250ml or a third of a bottle) - when Tesco do deals most weeks for nice bottles of wine at a fiver (half price) then that's me staying home!

Before VAT rise a pint of Stella in my closest pub was £3.20. Not sure how much it is now but I would expect £3.25 minimum.
