Can live, uncooked, mussels be frozen?
I've read lots of conflicting views on google.

Personally I wouldn't as it puts an extra dimension 'to go wrong' into the cooking equation. I prefer to work off the old adage of never eat them without an R in the month and I tend to avoid September if they are fresh. And then never, never, those that have broken shells or float.
No seems to be the answer I see to your question. Cooked can be for up to 3 months only.

However, what a waste not to enjoy them recently cooked!

I have live mussels for tonights tea. Too many in the pack for tonights meal though.

I know all about cooking mussels. Just nothing about freezing them. Obviously I know I can cook them and then freeze them.

Can they be frozen from live/raw though?
I wouldn't recommend it.
I did it once and when I came to defrost them, it looked like something from an episode of Dr Who.....:o(

Thanks DTcroasswordfan. I will cook them all tonight and freeze what is not needed. Before adding the final ingredients obviously.

A bag of live, uncooked mussels turned into something very unpleasant...........:o(

Thank you. I won't attempt it then for sure. I'll do what I said above and cook the whole lot and freeze the surplus.

i did this once and they tasted awful. if you are freezing them when they are alive then they die due to the cold. they shrivel up and are not good for anything, im not sure if its dangerous either if they have died then you cook and eat them.
