Just watching his 30 minute meals. Why does he put so much olive oil on things? Do any of you put olive oil on top of stuff?

Sains do an olive oil as opposed to Virgin oil and I use that in cooking
Lighter in taste
Question Author
I do like chilli oil on salad. I would use a fraction of what he does though.

Plus...why would a well made pate need to be guzzled in oil?

James Martin....now he over uses butter....!

I think they have shares or something...
Question Author
I'm not talking about oil to cook with Ric.....
My daughter uses olive oil around her eyes, she suffers with eczema and it works a treat for her.
The lighter olive oils are usually used in cooking, whereas extra virgin should be saved for pouring over, and salads, etc.
I won't have a word said against James Martin... even if it does involve his love affair with butter.

I also won't have a bad word said against Michel Roux Junior.

Obviously this is entirely to do with their amaziing chefy abilities and not because I perve at them.
Question Author
I do like James Martin as well China :-)

I understand that using a good oil as dressing is essential...but it's the amounts he uses.
I don't have a problem with oil. BUt the salt some chefs put on stuff makes me cringe. I only add salt to eggs, chips and roast tatties i think. I never cook with it.

Mind you, I never really cook either.
Question Author
I agree with the salt as well. I hate the taste of raw salt so don't even use it on chips.
I never add salt to any cooked food...and I'd rather use organic stock cubes in cooking, than salt.
Organic or nott, doesn't all stock cube contain salt ?
Question Author
Yes soaps...but stock cubes don't taste like salt...
I switched to organic because the ones I had been using-Knorr- have MSG in them.
We always comment on the oil lake whenever we watch Jamie too. In general I like him and what he does but I don't agree with drowning everything in oil. The flavour of a very good quality oil is much nicer than the cheaper ones that you use for cooking, but also incredibly expensive. He must double the cost of the meal with the amount he puts on. Apart from not being able to afford to drown my food in extra virgin olive oil I also like to chew my food not have it slide straight down my throat before I get the chance.
Question Author
Well said Ratty. Glad it's not only me :-)
I love extra virgin oil, I like it soaked into my toast for breakfast! Heaven!!! It actually tastes even better on the continent but I think that is due to the continental holiday atmosphere :-)
Question Author
I've tried it like that Ratter...dipping bread into it. I suppose it's just something I don't like.

There's a tapas bar down the road from us and they give you bread, olive oil and balsamic while you wait. I like balsamic :-)
I must watch this programme sometime than and lake note of the oil. I was intrigued at his failure to overcome resistance to healthy food in the US recently. Bet I missed the second episode of that.

Oh yes olive oil. I don't do a lot of cooking these days so on the rare occassion when I need to cook with oil/fat I tend to use the extra virgin . Wouldn't dream of saving it for pouring it on salads since I don't have a rabbit nor a guinea pig who would be willing to eat that raw leafy muck, and probably wouldn't appreciate the oil anyway.
Question Author
Lol Geezer....

It's good in dressings for salad :-)
"Harvester" type salads are good. Spud in mayo, crunchy gretins, fake bacon bits, roll & butter. And then a choice of dressings to drown it all in.
