I usually make my own hummous using chick peas, lemon juice and oil, but it doesn't end up, when I've blended it, as smooth as how you can buy already made hummous in the shops. Recently, I've heard of using Tahini in hummous, would using this make my hummous smoother? and does it taste better too.

it would taste lovely, but wouldn't make it smoother. Are you putting enough olive oil in?
For me I think that Tahini does make Hummus taste better and more authentic, but it does depend on how long you blend the chick peas for as to whether its smooth or not.I bought the Tahini from Tesco's.
Also try adding a small piece of red pepper or chilli into the mix. It gives it an extra kick !!
You need some garlic in there also!
What sort of blender do you use? Doing small amounts at a time with a hand-held may get smoother results.

Do you use tinned chickpeas? If you cook your own it may be that you need to do them for a little longer. Tahini is not only better for the taste it is a good source of calcium too...

I've never made hummus without tahini, its absolutely essential to the flavour and texture. You need some garlic and coriander in there too.
I use exactly the same recipe as Trim.
I use the same recipe as Trim too, never fails. I have never seen a recipe for Hummous without Tahini paste.
I always use tahini and I put everything in a food processor.
