do you have to have potatoes with your dinner

slight argument at work, do you have to have potatoes with your meal to make it complete
for example (although i now want chicken tikka) i have chicken pie for dinner and will have that with carrots, broc, peas. I am being told that i have to have some form of potato with it or its not a meal. to me the pastry acts as my carbs and i don;t need anything else
whale will bring home chick curry and rice and chips - i don't get this???

"I have never understood the attraction of a "chip buttie", which is merely a heap of carbohydrate between two pieces of carbohydrate" They do taste good but the body cannot use all that energy if the portion's large and had at night and will be stored as fat as well as the chip fat (if they're fried) clogging up your arteries.
If you have a very strenuous job with a day's worth of hard manual labour you need carbs and lots of them. Chip butties would be fine.
In the olden days (50+ years ago) when everything was manual, including washing the blankets and beating the rugs, never mind walking everywhere, then carbs were needed and burned up.
Dripping on toast, chip butties, 6 spoons of sugar in your tea. All burned off with physical labour.
In fact you needed carbs to keep warm in the winter, with no heating in the bedrooms and no central heating.
Everything was so much more physical then. No we have gadgets to do all the hard work, and have to use gadgets for exercise. It's quite funny really.
Times have changed, our diets need to change.
