slight argument at work, do you have to have potatoes with your meal to make it complete

for example (although i now want chicken tikka) i have chicken pie for dinner and will have that with carrots, broc, peas. I am being told that i have to have some form of potato with it or its not a meal. to me the pastry acts as my carbs and i don;t need anything else

whale will bring home chick curry and rice and chips - i don't get this???

Crafty found that pie, will be trying it
It's lush.............:-)
You can have whatever you want! It doesn't matter if you have potatoes or pastry or rice or whatever. If you only want one, have it. If you want more have them! It's absolutely your choice! There is no right or wrong!!
If I am having pie, then I have potatoes with it. having said that, I don't like to have potatoes everyday, I like variety.
I have to have carbs coming from different sources (pasta, rice, cous cous, yam etc..)with every meal except after 6 where I then have protein, good fats and salad, possibly small amount of veg.
I have never understood the attraction of a "chip buttie", which is merely a heap of carbohydrate between two pieces of carbohydrate.
In Aberdeen, as a joke, I had a special pizza made with a pile of chips on top, covered with a load of cheese & tomato.

Not only did he wolf it without seeing the joke, the shop sold several more of them that night - probably still do!
"I have never understood the attraction of a "chip buttie", which is merely a heap of carbohydrate between two pieces of carbohydrate" They do taste good but the body cannot use all that energy if the portion's large and had at night and will be stored as fat as well as the chip fat (if they're fried) clogging up your arteries.
have whatever you like with whatever you like! pie without potato is healthier and less stodgy. i would swerve it personally
Well, I must admit to having potato's with my dinner, (unless I have pasta,) a'gravy' dinner isn't complete without potato (in my opinion). My daughter can live without them, but her three children love them, she can't undersatand why!!!!!!STRANGE
Well had chicken pie with veg, whale had the same he couldn't be bothered to go get chips - has now pronounced himself full and why was i trying to force chips on him grrrrrrrrr
No of course not - we hardly ever have potatoes these days. Yes, it's tradition, but they don't count in your 5 a day, I'd rather have other veg. I love my mash though, when we have potatoes we nearly always have mash.
I like chips with pie :c)

Don't eat 'tatties that often really as a side. They're nice in red thai curry sauce though.
If you have a very strenuous job with a day's worth of hard manual labour you need carbs and lots of them. Chip butties would be fine.

In the olden days (50+ years ago) when everything was manual, including washing the blankets and beating the rugs, never mind walking everywhere, then carbs were needed and burned up.
Dripping on toast, chip butties, 6 spoons of sugar in your tea. All burned off with physical labour.
In fact you needed carbs to keep warm in the winter, with no heating in the bedrooms and no central heating.

Everything was so much more physical then. No we have gadgets to do all the hard work, and have to use gadgets for exercise. It's quite funny really.

Times have changed, our diets need to change.
Don't get me wrong i love pots just can't do carbs and carbs i get full up to quickly and i just don't understand why pots for some make a meal complete
PoTAto...

I don't like pie. I don't actually like loads of things, so the potatoes can be the main part of my meal.
