I would like to buy a nice bottle of Gin for a friend as a thank you for something. I can't stand the stuff, but it is her favourite. I know that she likes Bombay Sapphire and Caorunn, but i'd like to get her something a bit special that she can't just pick up in the supermarket. Anyone any suggestions?

I thought maybe this:

I would recommend Tanqueray

Yes that's it. A very nice drop and that's a good price!
This one is also very acceptable and quite a lot cheaper, but more widely available.

I am not acquainted with n° 209 but I do like Blackwood's for a treat. It is distilled in the Shetlands.

Thank you vallaw - I think it is repulsive stuff lol - I think I will go for the rarer one as it's meant to be something special. :o)
Tanqueray is really good for G&Ts, plenty of ice, slice of lime, half gin (at least), half tonic - yum - Bombay for martinis....

This one Euphemia?

Being Scottish, I like the Shetland link too.
Is there a big difference in taste between lets say Gordons and Bombay and the others?

it's G7T she drinks DT - decisions decisions!!
huge

I would presume it's like drinking a blended or a malt whisky wn.
I like this one, has a very unique flavour

The others are a bit strong for me
Gordons is no longer drinkable since they cheated by reducing the strength to 37 proof. There is a vast difference in flavours between gins - the aromatics vary greatly although all should have a good tang of juniper.
Yes. I'm no expert on gin but I do like this one.
Lol, annie I'm a whisky hater so that doesn't tell me much, maybe the same as drinking tesco's own brand vodka and smirnoff?
At the very least - also depends what you are mixing into it........I heard a good one the other day and that is if you have a serious nut allergy you should be careful with Bombay Sapphire as they put a wee touch of cocnut oil into - I have no idea whether this is true. However.........
I cannot imagine gin with a coconut flavour but I'll guess that it's delicious. What is the usual mixing protocol for gin or is it anything goes?
I like Beefeater, and it is still 40%.

Hmmm a few choices then, it may come down to which bottle I think would look nice in the cabinet :o)

wn - I would guess so, I'm not a big vodka drinker but I like a nice bacardi - I like those matured ones you get (mainly because the taste like a soft whisky!)

You could be right DT because I just saw a review that said Bombay Sapphire it had an oily quality....she doesn't have a nut allergy as far as I am aware though.
its just the tiniest smidge apparently as one of the herbs and oils that they add.....reference vallaw's last comment
