I was born in Quebec, Canada, and lived there till I was 14, and moved over to England. One meal i most miss nowadays, is a POUTINE, which consits of french fries, cheese curds sprinkle over, and delishious 'hot chicken' gravy. Has any one ever heard of it...and does any one know where i can get either the cheese curds, gravy o preferably both in Manchester?? Please if you have ever heard of a Poutine...let me know what you thought of it.

I LOVE poutine - I was introduced to it a couple of years back on a trip to Montreal and came back with my case stuffed with cans of the gravy.  The closest I've managed is to use grated mozzarella in place of the curds and make the gravy by frying a little onion, adding some flour, cooking for a minute or so and then adding hot chicken stock (from a cube) and a generous helping of black pepper for a bit of a kick.  Not perfect, not really even Poutine, but the closest I can manage!

Thank god for that... i thought i was the only one in england to love the stuff. I miss the cheese even on its own...the way it squeeks  when u chew it mmmm.

Everytime my wife heres me mention poutine she goes ewww.... she has not tried it yet but dislike the ingredient mix.

Thans for your input camille!

hate to disappoint but I'm actually up here in Scotland so you may quite possibly be the only one in the whole of England!........

I googled this and found a recipe on the link above. Can't say it appeals personally - I think chips (french fries) should be crispy, not made soggy by gravy !

I had this last year - friends from Canada coem to visit and we went to a Canadian Sports Bar (in London) where they have snacks like this on the menu (and moosehead beer etc). Maybe you could try and see if there are any such bars local to you?? Oh, and yes, it was really tasty
Cheese that squeaks when you chew it?  Are you sure it didn't have a mouse around it ??
