I bought two pack of sausages the other day and froze one pack. They are out of date on 26th October and I bought them on 20th October. If I thaw the frozen pack on say 27th October will they still have a 6 day period before they go out of date?

I have always worked on that theory and have not had anything make us ill yet including some prawns last week.
in theory, yes!...but when I defrosr I like to use within 48 hours, just to be on the safe side!........
I couldn't agree more with what welsh said! Better to be safe than sorry...

Thanks
Recommendation is that food that has been home frozen is used within 24 hours of defrosting regardless of its original shelf life.
Is it a sell by date or a use by date? If it looks OK and smells OK they will be OK. I eat lots of supposedly out of date food and never suffered.
I think that there is too much weight applied to both sell by and use by dates on food as johnk says, if it smells okay and looks okay it probably is okay to eat. Any food that is heated to over 75 degrees (c) will have any bacteria destroyed anyway, so there is a vastly reduced risk.
I always think the supermarkets have a vested interest in customers believing that food is unsafe to eat after a short period of time, it is good business for them to have customers throw it away and then have to purchase more from them.
But if the item is frozen, there is no reason to defrost it and leave it for 6 days before you eat it anyway. Better to leave it in the freezer until you want to eat it!

I'm like that too, usually if it smells okay I'll not be put off. But when you accidently eat a sausage that has gone off it is so rancid it can put you off them for a while.
Sufficent heat may kill bacteria but may not destroy toxins. That said I agree that if is seems ok it probably is. And if you are wrong once in a while, well all life's a risk, just stay close to the bathroom for a day ;-)
