what sort of dish it it? the only way I can think of is to add more liquid. but that is dependent on what you are making.

the dish is a moroccan chicken tagine but don't want to dilute flavours.
Pepper does mellow as it is cooked. Has your tagine had the full cooking time?

Tagine has had full cooking time but will reheat tomorrow.
Agree with SD, some yoghurt should do the trick.
Preferably proper full fat (greek) stuff - not the mimsy wimsy low fat nonsense ...

Many thanks to all. Will give yoghurt a try.
You might find that once it has reheated that the pepper has mellowed sufficiently. Adding yogurt will soften the edge of the pepper but it will also dull the other flavours. If you go down the yogurt route do it right at the end though.
I have not tried it myself, but someone suggested to me that adding a (perhaps boiled??) potato into the dish will absorb some of the chemical that gives pepper its heat.
