Hiya, I need some ideas for light supper meals for OAPs please.

I work in a care home and all the staff have agreed that the suppers are not great. The cook wants us to think of some ideas. Don't want anything with toast as they have that a lot.

Thanks

Sorry MissC for sounding like an idiot, but is this for after they have had their evening meal, around bedtime? Or is it for their main evening meal? xx
baked frittata

cheese scones and tomato or onion soup

Sorry, this is for their 6.15pm meal. They have a main meal at 12.15pm. The cook usually gives them something on toast or great big frankfurters, that sort of thing. Yuk.

We want to think of ideas that old people may like?
a lovely omelette or home made biscuits with a nice cuppa
sausage rolls,
southern fried style chicken and coleslaw
Cold meat and pickles
wedges of quiche
Question Author
Some good ideas there! I was thinking of quiche as well.
Thanks - oh and I like the sound of the cold meats and pickles!
Thanks for clearing that up for me! lol

Salmon fishcakes with salad
Kedgeree
Chicken and broccoli casserole

The Hairy Bikers did a series about meals on wheels and feeding the elderly.

Jacket potatoes... could be variety of fillings; coleslaw, beans, ham, grated cheese, cottage cheese, tuna, tuna mayo, egg mayo... could even do a side salad with it if needed.
At first glance I thought that read, "Last Supper, Help Please".
An entirely different thing, I hope.
Does it need to fall within a per head budget?
I would consider using food that triggers memories as it will stimulate interaction .. even things like cockles, mussels prawns with bread and butter
tongue, haslet, spam. but also maybe good old fashioned soups like oxtail and cream of chicken... and things like fruit salad or tinned peaches with evaporated milk, blancmanges or jellies, trifle, custard tarts etc
Liver and bacon is a favourite with many OAPs too
How many people to cater for?
I presumed it meant a light supper as in just before bedtime ? Liver and bacon ???

B00, they do have a budget but the cook is is £3,000 under budget as she refuses to buy things. I have no idea for price per head, she hasn't said. For example, some of the residents are supposed to have full fat cream in their porridge and mashed potato but she just uses some powdered stuff.
I can't see any of the suppers suggested would be very expensive.
Thats the first question I asked The Other Half...it's for their 6.15pm meal!
Question Author
24 residents but could be upto 30 if we have any staying in respite.
Question Author
In work, they call it supper for some reason.
sorry, missed that bit as you it was posted at the same time as mine
