i consider myself quite a good cook 'but'dont ask me to make cheese sauce or pankakes,a disaster every time,what doesnt turn out right for you?????

What goes wrong with your cheese sauce?
I am rubbish at fruit loaves, the fruit always sinks.
Nothing ever.

That might be because I don't cook though.
Can never boil the water for tea. Always burn it.

i could use the cheese sauce as cement,i think i put in too much flour,i tried less but it ends up awful so i keep having to buy a jar of dolmio
Made some doughnuts once and seized the wrong jar, and rolled them in salt instead of sugar.

Scones! they always turn out like bricks!
worst disaster was when I was first married and wanted to make a rice pudding. I called my Mum to ask what the amount of rice to milk was and she said 2 to 1. So I put half a pound of rice to a pint of milk - I had to throw the dish away it was so solid!!!
Not mine, but imagine being served crunchy pasta - who can't cook that I ask you.....then there was the pork and prunes that overloaded the sewers.....
Conversely, I put sugar on my chips in a cafe once, I was too embarassed to mention it so I had to eat some of them - bleah.
im crap at yorkshire puddings.... its cos i dont let the lard/oil or whatever get hot enough... my mam and nanas always said leave it til its smoking... i panic and darent leave it that long...result.... not very good looking puds but they always taste okay...easier to buy em....

Oh, god ... where do I start?
I have had one major disaster when I was a pastry chef. It was April Fool's Day and I wasn't paying attention. I had made a batch of 6 souffles and they were all returned. I was asked to taste them and that's when we realised some a*****e had replaced the sugar in the sugar bin for salt! I was lucky I had a very nice head chef and I managed to whip up some more using sugar lol :)
Crafty, turn the cake upside down halfway through cooking :)

My mum made a chocolate cake with bisto instead of cocoa powder.

Roast beef for me - never works out right and to be fair I haven't tried it for years now.

my ex took me into an italian restuarant once as a treat for my birthday,it was only about the second or third time i had been in a restuarant and i ordered lasagne,i did;nt know what half of the other stuff was any way,when lasagne came it was so salty i moaned to ex but was afraid to complain and forced myself to eat half of it so nobody would feel offended,how daft was I.
Chocolate cake for me, they taste nice but never seem to rise as well as my vic sponge.

Slinky: melt butter in pan, then add flour & whisk till it forms a paste, then add milk gradually. Once you've got the consistency, add the cheese - it can't fail, if you a) don't leave it on the burner b) don't stop whisking - if you have to stop whisking, take it off the hob.

right meg,i'm going to try yet again,i just ate one of the pancakes ,bloody hell they're rotton
Gravy, packet every time. Pancakes, Delia recipe, knob of butter and a hot, non stick pan. Need to wait until edges just start to brown before you turn it over.
roast beef cant cook it for love nor money! that and some cakes, though i wont be beat!
