Alternative to buttercream to fill a birthday cake
17 Answers
Hi - does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can use to fill a 4 layer chocolate cake instead of buttercream? Its for a 3 year old so I feel buttercream may be too heavy. I have got a ganache recipe but I am worried that may also be too sweet? I am looking for something fluffier than buttercream. Any help welcome (as usual!)- thanks

It is (if you don't know) condensed milk boiled in the tin, [covered in boiling water] for about three hours. It keeps for ages and is great when making banoffee pie. The ready made creme du leche is a little softer and easier to spread on a sponge layer
