anniversary tea

i am having a small "do" for our anniversary this year, i have a menu from a local pub for a "finger buffet" of quiche lorraine, selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls and crisps for £6.00 a head, (there will be a cake supplied by the family) plus tea and coffee, and the bar will be open, what i want your opinions on is, do you think the food seems a bit plain for the price? this will be an afternoon party as there will be several very old and very young guests.

the caterer i use charges me about that, £7.00 a head and i get a selection of sarnies some snacky bits like sausage rolls, some kind of chicken satays or drumsticks with dips and cakes or fruit.

Yes, it does sound expensive for what you're getting. How many people are they catering for?

How 'small' is a small do. If it's just 10,£60 may seem a lot when you could do it yourself for less.

It does sound a tad pricey, but it depends on the quality, variety and quantity of the sandwiches etc. - this could justify the price.

also depends on how nice the surroundings are and the things like are the plates and cutlery nice? Do you get service or is it dumped and help yourself and so on

there will be about 25-30 guests, and since some young children i thought maybe some small sweet things might be an idea, but what can i suggest, it would obviously put up the price though.

Can't you get different caterers?

Have you checked any other local places to compare, Here in Hampshire 6 quid a head is not bad at all to include use of the venue...yes anything you add will put the price up.

bit unimaginative....ask if you can bring in some extra 'platters' then raid iceland for mini cakes and some spicy snacks if they can't offer some alternatives

thanks for all your help, we have only one local as in a remote village, never thought of asking if they would mind us bringing a few things, i will do that, its strange when you do things for the first time, you just don't know how things are done, so glad i have you folks to ask.

If you've not eaten there,it might be a good idea to sample some of their food-in order to get an idea of the level of quality and to see if it is to your taste.

We too are having Afternoon Tea, with champagne, for our anniversary this year. There will be about 60+ people, and the intention is to buy in platters of sandwiches,(which cost about £10 per large platter) ready made, from the local S******** supermarket, - had these before for various events, and they are great. We shall also have some savouries eg sausage rolls, etc. and scones, with jam and cream, fresh cream victoria sandwich, lots of fancy cakes, including cup cakes,and a large celebration fruit cake, and a smaller sponge one.
We do not intend to do much cooking, but believe in making things easy for ourself, so lots of the cakes will be bought.
