I have just had a conversation with a friend about the cost of food.
She NEVER spends more than £80.00 per week.

I live in Spain and have a good budget for food, so thankfully dont have to worry, plus everyday fruit and vegetables are much cheaper here.

But out of interest I wonder what the UK average would be.

What do others spend I wonder?

I spend between £80 - £100 per week, and that is just food for four adults. I do all my cleaning stuff, bathroom etc separately.

Woops should have said for £80.00 for 2 adults.
I managed a weeks worth of food shopping for £43 last week. 2 adults and 1 child who eats like a horse!
I actually have a couple of meals left over
Cleaning stuffs are bought separately as and when needed
I have no idea what I spend because my shopping is so irregular. I call into the supermarket on an almost daily basis, have a veg box delivered, get meat from the butchers and do periodic Cash & Carry trip.

I think it's probably best I remain ignorant!
I spend about 30ish per week, and that includes, two adults, a child, a dog and a cat.

Also included is toiletries.

I'm thrifty!
I know I spend too much on food and would love tips on how to cut back. I shop for 3 adults. ojread2 and BOO please can you let me know where you shop and what kind of meals you make. Any tips will be gratefully received :)
average 50 quid. Bout 40 in supermarket, the rest on market

Wow you are all doing so well - I will obviously have to look at my spending, might manage the world cruise if I tighten my belt LOL
i spend £50-£60 on food items for 2 adults and a child inc. lunch boxes, and more again on cleaning/household products!

my husband bakes cakes and biscuits, and bulk cooks for freezing, so we are able to keep costs down that way!
That shop was Tesco and Iceland.
Right across the road from each other so no extra petrol used
You have to know your prices in each shop to know where the bargains are.
I can do it cheaper, but I can also spend more
I tend to buy only grapes and bananas, as other fruit gets left
On average £100 per week over three visits for 2 adults but that includes cleaning stuff & toiletries, eat out at lunchtimes at least 3 times a week so say another £40 on top of that
oh, and yes, I bake my own cakes etc which do for puddings, lunch boxes and treats
I plan my weekly menu before I shop and have just done my food shop at Lidl and spent £43.00 and that includes a box of wine. (2 adults) Had I done the same shop at S/bury's it would probably have been twice as much.
I tend to buy cleaning stuff and toiletries from Wilkinsons as and when I need them.

I'm about £120 per week and thats 2 adults and 2 children

Sometimes I only go 2 or 3 times a months and make do with whats in the cupboard/freezer

I stay out in the country so Tesco is what I use for everything. I get all washing powders, toilet rolls, toiletries etc there and I also use it for some clothes and house things, birthday cards, presents etc
we don't smoke or drink, but have saved for camper van! we now take picnics instead of having cafe lunches out too!
Well i do have a slight advantage I guess julie. I work at the Co op and get a massive (!) 10% discount and I also have first dibs on the whoopsied stuff. Think I can say, hand on heart, that pretty much everything in my fridge, freezer and cupboards have an orange label on them, rofl.

I get my toiletries and cleaning stuff which normally only comprises of bleach and spray anti bacterial cleaner from my local Poundshop.

I get free eggs weekly.

Milk and bread I buy from my local asian shop, which is miles cheaper than from a supermarket. I also bulk buy flour and cooking oil from them too, again, works out cheaper.

I've also learnt the art of stretching what i cook too. A chicken (again, usually whoopsied) makes on average 3/4 meals for the 3 of us, and even the carcass gets used as a soup stock.
£84 a week on fags?! Good grief
That would buy me 2 weeks of shopping lol
£100 on booze... each week... good grief.

Our average shop is £70-£80 but that's everything.
lol, I missed that bit = me thinks that's a WUP
