Do you do a Sunday Dinner.....

....... Every week, as a kind of tradition?
Growing up we rarely did as it was hard to get everyone together at the same time on a Sunday, what with our various pursuits and commitments.
But now I kind of regret that we didnt, I know families that religiously get together on a Sunday for a Sunday lunch and I think its great. They will eat, drink and discuss the week that they have had and thinngs coming up in a safe, happy, friendly environment. I want to make the effort to do this with my family but we are all so busy these days!

When I was little in the late 50s and 60s, we always had Sunday lunch. Always a roast and then we'd have the left over meat, if there was any, on sandwiches for supper, and any left over veg would go in a rissole or bubble and squeak.

My mum always did a Sunday dinner and then I did it when I married and had a family...I carried on until my sons left home. I very rarely bother for myself.

Mum used to wheel her hostess trolley into the lounge about 5.30.
We weren't allowed to touch the goodies until we'd eaten the sandwiches :-)

jd, I try to do a Sunday dinner, but it depends on where my family are and how many I cook for.

I used to do a roast on Sunday and then a tea of sandwiches and cakes in the evening, till one day I realized I was the only one who worked all day instead of taking it easy for one day a week, so I got in loads of 'do it yourself' type food such as cold meat, cheese and salad, crusty bread and things in jars, and have refused to cook on Sundays ever since, but we did all sit down together every other day of the week.

No we alway had a family day on Sundays with the kids, swimming, bike rides, park, beach. Then off the MIL for a visit, so Sunday dinner was a quick dinner. We always eat round the table anyway, now they are all adults and working or moved out they come through the week for tea, ranging from 2 to 12 for tea. Doesn't matter what day you do it, its nice to just sit round a table and eat with the family.

We do n`t have Sunday lunch as hubby works & not home until 6pm. We have whatever I feel like making. We do have a roast dinner at least twice a week though. A big difference from when I was a child when Sunday dinner was the norm

when I worked alternate sundays,parents did dinner the week I worked & I did the other,when stop working w/e's,I seem to end up doing most sundays,sister never had parents over to hers or rarely,which ment someone had to drive them once dad no longer drove,dad in care home now & mom goes theere for midday meals everyday,so more casual now

when i'm not working, yes - it's a full roast with all the trimmmings and a lovely pud. the afternoon is then spent digesting and falling asleep in front of a film on the tv. today we are having toad in the hole as my back is still bduggered and nobody else has gone out to get meat of any kind. both men are moaning...and i've told them it's their own fault! (not to mention the boy works in sainsburys!!!). i will make (well, delegate) a rice pud for dessert, as mr kicker cannot do a decent one if his life depended on it x

If meeting up for a meal was important to your family they'd slot other activities round it. It doesn't have to be lunch time but evening time too. My sister has a doors open at 5pm on Sundays and all family members are welcome she just needs to know day before.

Mum has always done a roast of some kind for a Sunday evening, not really lunch time. There can be 6 of us round the table or there can be 25 round the table. It just depends who is free.

Not really... Very rarely would we have a roast on Sunday.

And I think that today is another one of those days. We'll probably have an Indian takeaway tonight actually. Sundays are meant for recovering! They are lazy days! :-)

Plus, I don't really like meat. The only roast i'll eat is a ham joint so it's usually a waste for just mum and dad.

Not any more. Like Robinia I was brought up to always have a Sunday Lunch, usually a roast, but sometimes a steak and kidney pie. I followed the tradition for quite a while, although it became a Sunday Dinner in the evening. Nowadays Sunday is no different from any other day. We do have roasts, probably about once a week, but the day varies. If I were on my own I wouldn't bother.

BUT I must admit to enjoying the treat of a Sunday Pub Roast Dinner in the winter at lunch time with a log fire burning in the Pub and a convivial atmosphere.

Today we are having chowder - this evening.
