Bought this from Asda (really a shop I don't buy from) - however put the oil in and done the business - there was really no taste from the roasted potatoes.
A little of a saga - one day I cooked a small chicken in a large pot on the oven and the oil from that chicken I roasted roasties - they were unbelievable.

Many years ago I used to render beef dripping, and goose fat down(not together) and there was always little bits of flesh attached. I was doing it from fresh. After it had sizzled for a while it was fine. I think the trick was to get it up to 220 degrees+ for it to gain flavour. As I say it was many years ago, and the memory fades. I remember the smell tho'
thanks for your answers guys - but don't know what rendering beef and goosefat is. May try the chicken again in the big pot - that taste of the chicken on the roasties were unbelievable - having said that there would not have been enough chicken fat to do a load of roasties. bye and happy new year.
its very overated, as rocky says, I got goose fat from morrisons and swear it was not what it says on the tin, no flavour at all, and the roasties did not come out as crispy as when done in beef dripping or olive oil, won't make that mistake again.
