Help ! Just got back from shopping and realised I forgot to get some Balsamic vinegar. I need it for a recipe Im doing tonight. Is there anything I could use as a substitute. I have malt vinegar and white vinegar available

Expensive possibly, but it would save time and petrol money if it were stocked there.

I would say it would depend on the recipe. What are you cooking?
:-) Not sure I'd consider them an alternative. Have you tasted either ? Either leave it out or rush to the local shop to buy a bottle, would be my thoughts.
Are you on good terms with your neighbours ?

Im doing chicken and onion kebabs and I have to soak the quartered onions in a mix of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I feel sure it wont taste the same without it as its a recipe I use a lot and delicious. Both neighbours either side out all day. I will maybe have to go and get some but it was a madhouse in town this morning and dont really want to go back. Corner shop may not have anything like this or prob expensive

It won't be the same with normal vinegar. Balsamic has got a very distinctive taste and I can't think of an alternative.

I should have listened to you Old Geezer and gone to the corner shop. It would have been cheaper NOT more expensive, cos I went back to Tesco and ended up spending another £13 !!! Oh well, it will be worth it. Looking forward to my tea now :>)
