Cannellini Beans

I've bought these to make Boston Baked Beans tomorrow, on the back of the packet it says to soak them in cold water overnight, then boil them.

Now, if I'm making the Boston Beans in a slow cooker can I just put the overnight soaked beans in or do I have to boil first them put them, I don't want to poison us all.

You'll have to boil the beans for at least 10 minutes. A slow cooker doesn't get hot enough to remove all the toxins.

Packet says, boil for 10 mins then simmer for an hour and half, so the simmering bit will be okay in the slow cooker?

If it's anything like my slow-cooker, it'll take HOURS to cook the beans. I usually add canned ones towards the end.

Yes, that should be OK. Some of these dried pulses can be a ***** to cook properly!! 10 hours should nail them.

I wanted haricot beans but Tosco let me down.

Make sure they have plenty of liquid in there as if you see them drying out you're going to have to take the lid off to add some water and that will slow the process down even more. Quite honestly, I'd just boil them unless of course they're part of a recipe you're putting into the slow cookpot...

....my answer rather assumed it was part of a recipe. Wouldn't cook beans alone in slow-cooker.

Yes, they're part of a recipe, I'm soaking at the moment, I'll change water and boil for 10 mins in the morning, them bung them in the slow cooker with the other ingredients. Does that plan sound okay?

Just to be on the safe side, I'd boil them hard for 15 minutes before putting in slow cooker.
