I usually add wine to make my gravy but could you add beer...lager or ale ?

yep, darker stronger beers for red meat will do nicely
Ale, Newcastle brown or something similar gives gravy a lovely flavour. Not lager, touch too sweet.
cider in gravy for pork, chicken or turkey is pretty damn good too.
Waste of alcohol.
They use ale in steak & ale pie so i don't see why not. Why not experiment though before serving to someone else.
