Job Trial Day

My friend had a trial at a pie making factory and worked nine hours.Not much time was spent training her.
Is she owed wages ?
She did`nt get the job...

Desktop asked a very similar question a few weeks back - it seems in some sectors, a trial of a few hours takes place to see if the job and the applicant are suited. Never heard of it myself.

Nine hours on her feet and no pay for all that time and labour she put in? This sucks big time.

Wasn't the matter of being paid while training discussed in the interview or before she started the job?

I suppose it might be a case of semantics. We offer work experience days and it's quite clear that they won't get paid - but that is slightly different.

My son did a trial day when applying for a new job, he was suprised when he was handed wages when leaving, the boss said it was illegal not to pay him.

That was 18 months ago so may have changed (& he did get the job)

We didn't get paid for our homecare training with a big agency. They said the problem was that people were doing the training, because to claim jobseekers, they had to attend interviews/training, but many had no intention of accepting the job. The agency lost a lot of money paying people who then disappeared.
however, if it's illegal, it's illegal!
