My local Waitrose has a glut of strawberries that they are knocking out for pennies.

Apart from jam what could be done with them, any ideas?

Eat them

They are quite nice in a salad. Fruit salad obviously but also in a salad with lettuce etc.

Try it, you will be surprised.
Strawberry ice cream?
I put them on my cereal. Apparently, I just read today, they are very nutritious as they are full of antioxidants and help you to have a good skin.
Question Author
I am eating them, lots of them!

Trigger, assuming you are suggesting eating them from frozen, I can't even bite an ice lolly so that idea is out.

I'm wondering about strawberry Vodka.....
Eccles I can help you taste test the strawberry vodka - any time at all.
coulis then freeze it
ice cream then eat it!!
if you freeze them they can be used at a later date for smoothies and milkshakes

Strawberry ice cream, why didn't I think of that??? I have eggs that need using up too and an ice cream maker gathering dust!
strawberry crumble and freeze it
Making your own fruit ‘schnapps’ is surprisingly easy. Infusions are made by half-filling a jar with strawberry (or a combination of strawberry and raspberry), topping up with vodka, and leaving to steep for anything between three days and three months. The following tips will help make it fabulous:
Cover the infusion with a lid (a Kilner jar is useful for this)
Leave your infusion in a cool, dark, place
Taste after a few days – if it’s not very strong, you could add more fruit
Infusions draw out the flavour and colour of the fruit into the vodka, so you’ll see the spirit turns pink and the fruit turns white
For a twist on the strawberry flavour, add raspberries, blackberries, slices of cucumber, a teaspoon of vanilla seeds, or a couple of sprigs of mint.
If you like sweets you could make fruit leather.
Lay individually on a tray or suitable receptacle then freeze them whole, they will keep for six months when bagged or in containers for any further uses for six months.

Sorry strawberry crumble just doesn't do anything for me.

Brilliant idea Sherrard! Haven't made leather for ages.

I think I might hit Waitrose for more strawberries, cream and vodka.

Grasscarp, I'll give you a hour when the vodka is ready:-)
Question Author
Oops, that should have said 'shout' not hour, there's no way I'd leave grasscarp with my vodka for an hour!
Oh dear EcclesCake. Sounds like you know me too well.

Vodka made, about to start custard for ice cream!

Happy days!
Make an all in one sponge, whip up some cream with some caster sugar and vanilla essence slice strawberries in half and place on top of the cream, then top that with the other half of the cake thinner layer of cream and slice some strawberries and toss on top and then eat and enjoy!
