I bought a skillet today, suitable for my induction hob. Do I have to 'prove' it in some way before I cook my pork chops on it?

I bought a skillet the other week myself, first time I used it the steak stuck quite badly and I was to say the least disappointed, so I seasoned it as per a vid I found on the web and it's been great since.
The Lady in the shop where I purchased, said it wouldn't need it, she was wrong IMO.

Thanks Chris. I meant seasoning not proving. Shows how much I know.
