It seems that all the Supermarkets in my area sell Extra virgin olive oil and nothing less. Can there be so much extra virgin produced ? Or am  I being lied to.

you can tell if olive oil is extra virgin or just plain old olive oil by the colour, if it is a dark green colour it is extra virgin and if a almost yellow colour it is olive oil, the dark one is great for dressings or on its own and the yellow one is for cooking, but you should be able to get both really easily.
I read in the paper yesterday there could be an olive oil shortage because of the weather ,cant remember if its too hot or too wet though,so stock up!
The supermarket I work at sells normal olive oil.

A EVO maybe dark green - but the colour is not the indicator. Its the acidity level that defines an EVO - it has to be less than 1%.

 

Are you being lied to? - not if you buy from a reputable supermarket , but there is a lot of iffy olive oil around
