A while ago we decided that once a week we should have food from different countries, well it went by the wayside after about 4 months but the kids have decided they'd like to start it up again.
I need some new ideas, unusualish. Anyone got any for me?
Having just spent the best part of two weeks in Italy, I would advise NOT to go Italian! ;) Although you could do a nice Antipasta, then pasta then a secondi (meat and a side dish).
Moroccan baked chicken with chickpeas, lemon and rice (a la Delia)?
No, not hamster, murraymints, but guinea pig. In Ecuador this food is called 'cui', which the locals claim is the squeal it makes. It is served everywhere there, but for the full experience of Ecuadorian bonne bouche you must also serve shrimps. The two make for a boring experience after the first few days.
You could do a Middle Eastern meze - moutabel or hoummos, kebbeh, tabbouleh and flatbreads with a Mid East salad on the side which is usually diced, marinated cucumber and chunky tomato.
Spanish - chicken and chorizo paella? Or if you like seafood then paella! And have this once a month rather than once a week - you won't run out of options so quickly then!
I used to do this withmy kids some years ago, they were picky eaters so I made a meal from a different part of the world and they promised to eat it.It really broadened their tastes. I started out by looking through my diary at special days, Bastille day- French-, Independence day-American etc and then went through cookery books, after 3 months it got a bit hard going but they still like chicken kievs and any pasta dish.
