With a magnum of Champagne ? I received as a gift, does the old 'teaspoon' in the neck of the bottle after it's open really work to preserve the 'fizz'?

No, best thing is invite loads of friends round and quaff it merrily.

I was going to have a bath in it, but probably need more than one bottle ! lol ! Prefer your idea Mosaic ! :) HIC !
It'd only keep it for a little while, not enough to save it for another day :-(
Champagne loses its fizz after an hour or so no matter what you do.
I read recently that to keep it chilled is enough to retain the bubbles.
Spoon doesn't work. You can get proper fizz stoppers which will keep it OK for 24 hours. However, best solution is to drink it fast!
I won a boxed one years ago. Sold it through the local paper and bought whisky. :)
It`ll easily last for 24 hours if it`s in the fridge. Just stick some kitchen roll in the neck of the bottle if you don`t have a stopper.
Teaspoon trick actually does work, but only for a few hours at most.
